Hunting and fishing
The value of Romania’s hunting heritage is confirmed by 732 hunting trophies rewarded to the international exhibitions. 448 among them received golden medals. The Romanian hunting offer is divided in big and small game. The brown bear, the wild boar, the Carpathians roebuck, the chamois, the wolf, the lynx are included in the first category. The birds (pheasant, grouse, gees, ducks), and the hares are included in the second one.
Alpinism
The most popular areas to practice mountaineering and rock climbing in Romania are Bucegi Mountains, Piatra Craiului, Bicaz Gorges, Buila-Vânturarita massif, Fagaras Mountains, Retezat Mountains, Cerna Valley, Râsnoavei Gorges in Postavaru massif.
Caves
Among those 237,500 km2 of Romania, the rocks favourable to the development of the caves (limestone, marble, dolomites, sandstone, conglomerats, salt) cover 6,320 km2 (2.6% of the territory).
The Romanian caves were mentioned for the first time in the 17th century in the speleologic and geographical worls literature. The first topographic plans in the world were made in 1692 in Veterani Cave (Almaj Mountains). Zmeilor Cave from Onceasa (Bihor Mountains) was mentioned in the 19th century. The skeletons of hundreds of Ursus spelaeus were discoverd in this cave.
Rafting and Canyoning
Rafting on the fast mountain river courses can be organized in many regions in the country: Mures Valley and Olt Valley (the centre of the country), Crisurile (the west of Romania), Dambovita (to the south), Nera (to the west) or Bistrita (to the east).
Flight by Parachute
More than 40 places of this kind are to be found in Romania. Among the most famous are Prahova Valley
, especially the superior side of the valley (around 150 in the north of Bucharest), Bucegi Mountains, Hasmas Mountains with Bicaz Gorge, Apuseni Mountains, and Vatra Dornei, and the areas near the sea – the north of the coast.
Mountain Bike
Romania has a special potential for cyclotourism, and mountain biking due to its favorable relief, and the natural and cultural tourism attractions.
